I have taken many photos over the past few years with several SONY Mavica Digital Cameras. I am finally getting
around to putting some of these photos online. Many are of general interest while others will be interesting to just a few folks
in my life. A lot of the photos are taken in the Portland OR area as my first experience with a digital camera was using the
SONY Mavica 70 of a friend of mine, Russell Shaw. I had a great time with his camera. Finally after about 2 years of
occasionally using his camera when in the Portland OR area I had to have one of my own.
I bought a SONY Mavica 73 first just before going to a reunion of 3rd BN 4thMarines, the unit I served as a Machinegunner with in Vietnam in 1966 and
my father had served with in Shanghia China from 1930 until 1934, so that I could take pictures to offer to the 3/4 Marines
Website, see the photos from the 1998 3/4 Marines Reunion.
I have, also, taken a lot of pictures of art work of a friend of mine which LINKED to my HomePage, see Roland Heath's Art Show for LINKS to these and other
photos of his art work.
Most of the LINKS below will bring up a Page which has a discription of and LINKS to a number of individual photos about the same topic.
Any comments about the photos, style, grammar, love notes, and/or etc can be made to me at jtbass@tbass.com.
Now ON WITH THE SHOW:

- THE TAO OF TEA: I was introduced to THE TAO OF TEA at the program I attended on the campus of Portland State
University. Russell and I later went there and we have gone back for tea each time I go to Portland. I enjoy the
ambiance of THE TAO OF TEA's environment and the care they give to serving each of their selections of tea in the right way.
Each tea is served according to its own custom and prices vary according to the rarity of the tea and the difficulty of
serving it properly. I have not had a tea at THE TAO OF TEA that was not well worth the price. I love spending time at THE TAO OF TEA.

- Tibetan Buddhist Nuns: I was fortunate enough to attend a program given by the Tibetan Buddhist Nuns on the
campus of Portland State University in the summer of 1999. The show talked about their history, exhibited various
traditional dances and musical instruments which they use, and told of their plight. The nuns were touring trying to raise
funs to make their habitat in Nepal more liveable. I have been fortunate enough to meet His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet a couple of
times at Emory University in Atlanta GA and I support the exiled Tibetan Buddhists' wish to be able to return to their homeland safely. FREE TIBET !!!

- Powell's Books:
I spend a lot of time each trip to Portland OR at Powell's Books and its various specialty
bookstores located around Portland. (I, also, spend time at Powell's Books' Website.) When I am in Portland I will
sometime go to activities supported by Powell's Books such as book signings, and talks about various subjects. I
have found the staff at Powell's to be courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable of their charges, Books.

- Lake Oswego's Willamette Shore Trolley: It runs between near the Willamette, Wil-lam'-ette, River for seven miles
between the Portland suburb of Lake Oswego and the River Place area in downtown Portland.
Russell took me on the ride from Lake Oswego to Portland and back to Lake Oswego because we both
enjoy an interest in trains and trollies. Russell has a shot of the Lake Oswego's Willamette Shore Trolley and few shots from the trolly on his Photo Page
at russellshaw.net. Also, if you enjoyed the previous LINKS then try THIS to learn more about the trolley line.

- Saturday Market:
Russell introduced me to Portland's Saturday Market when my nephew and I first went out to
Portland to help Russell move from the Atlanta/Marietta area of GA. I have returned to the Saturday Market each
time I have gone to Portland during the season it is opened. I have bought a number of items there and sent them back
to myself in GA. I have talked with a lot of the artists who have booths there. (I wished that I had gotten these photos up
much earlier, but we do what we do.)

- Seattle WA: While out in Portland during the early summer of 1999 we took a side trip to Seattle WA so that I could
see the Coffee Mecca, so to speak. I took a picture of the Starbuck's Coffee in downtown Seattle. I, also, took a few
other photos while traveling aboard the ferry to get to Seattle, the Seattle Waterfront Streetcar, and a Vietnamese restaurant where we
ate.

- Pictures From The Back Deck: I took these pictures from the back deck of Russell's home at Uptown Terrace.
Russell is very proud of the view from his back deck. You can see why from these photos.

- Hippy Haven: My nephew and I were introduced to the Hawthorne area of Portland, the East side of the Willamette
River, on our first visit. In fact, our motel room was not far from Hawthorne. I felt quite comfortable in this area of the
city; neat businesses, restaurants, Powell's Garden and Cooking Bookstore, and THE TAO OF TEA is not far from Hawthorne.

- Portland Oregon's Vietnam Veterans Memorial: These pictures are Linked from my HomePage, but if you didn't stop
by them there please do so now. It is well worth the time to visit if you are ever in Portland. This is a quiet and reverant
memorial and I go to spend time there each time I go to Portland OR.

- Marines: I joined the United States Marine Corps in May of 1963 and went to MCRD Parris Island SC the first of
October 1963. I was in Plt 382 under Drill Instructors Staff Sgt. Goodrow, Sgt. Sabat, and Cpl. Lockner. As with most
Marines these are very important men in my life. I have recently met with a few of the member of the same Recruit
Platoon. I was with 2nd Plt, WPNS Plt, India Co., 3rd BN., 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division from February, 1966 until
October, 1966 in Vietnam. In 1993 I joined the 3/4 Marine Association and attended my first reunion in Arlington VA.
I met several guys there that I had not seen nor heard from in over 27 years. In summer of 1999 I went to my fourth
reunion in Houston TX. (It was for this reunion that I bought a SONY Mavica 73. I took over 250 pictures in
3 days, 150 or so which I sent to the Webmaster of the 3/4 Marine Association Website for use on that Website.)

- K*R*S*H*N*A: I met His Divine Grace
A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of the International Society for Krishna Conciousness, in 1975 when he was in Atlanta. (This is an interesting story in its own
right.) And I have been a friend of the ISKON every since. I have met many wonderful devotees over the years, seen
much beautiful art work, and had the opportunity to express devotion at many different ceremonies as festivals. I have
been to several of the temples and gotten to know several of the Gurus that were left to run the movement when
Prabhupada left his body. I introduced my sisters children to K*R*S*H*N*A and some of the stories surrounding the
various dieties of the K*R*S*H*N*A movement and specifically of ISKCON. My primary association is with the temple in Atlanta GA,
New Pani Hadi Temple, but I have been to a few other temples and farms associated with ISKCON.

- Nansemond POW-WOW: The Nansemond Tribe holds its POW-WOW each Fall in the Chesapeake/Suffolk VA area
near where they lived when the Europeans came in the late 1500's. They are a part of the Powhatan Chiefdom which
included 32 Algonkian-speaking tribes in the tide water area of Virginia. The European part of my family, John
Bass/Basse married into the tribe in 1638. His was one of two Christianized marriages between European and American
Indians according to Helen C. Rountree in The Powhatan Indians of Virginia through Four Centuries. Their culture is
recorded in The Powhatan Indians of Virginia: their traditional culture by the Ms. Helen C. Rountree. I have attended the
POW-WOW each Fall for the past three years. I met former Chief Earl "Running Deer" Bass, and present Chief Barry "Big Buck" Bass at their
homes at the northern end of Dismal Swamp in the summer of 1993. Chief Barry Bass, his wife Betty, and The
Nansemond Association are most gracious host for the POW-WOW each year. I have been to a lot of POW-WOWs
over the years, but I must admit that I get much more pleasure out of attending the POW-WOW of my peoples. AHO MITAKA OYSIN, Grandfather I give thanks for the winds which have come an blown the fog away so that I could know who I am. AHO...
