What Russell Shaw Sees From Uptown Terrace
Contents Page
Russell is always bragging about the views and vistas he has to put up with from the back deck of his home.
(This would be looking East from Uptown Terrace,)
The scenes are beautiful enough to spend some time making shots of so I can show them rather than just talk about them..
- Mt Hood:
The mountain is some 50+ miles away, but on a clear day it loooks like this.
If you want to see Mt Hood a bit closer then CLICK HERE.
- Mt St Helens:
She blew her top some 20 years ago. (April, 1980 to be exact) You can still see her from Russell's back deck on a clear day.
If you want to see her a bit closer then CLICK HERE.
- Fremont Bridge:
With its flags waving in the breeze off the Willamette River the Fremont Bridge joins downtown and the west side of Portland with the east side. What an impressive sight...
If you want to see this bridge a bit closer then CLICK HERE.
- Looking Down:
When Russell looks down from his back deck he sees a Temple's dome and neighborhood surrounding 23rd Street near Burnside.

- Weather???:
Russell has had an ongoing interest in the weather from an early age. He bought a weather
station unit, the Oregon Scientific WMR-918 Remote Wireless Weather Station, from FRY'S ELECTRONICS which
would transmit weather conditions to a receiver. The receiver is patched into his
computer via a cable thru a serial, RS-232, port. This is the instrument which
measures wind direction and speed. Russell wrote an article about this weather
station setup shortly after it was installed. On
russellshaw.net he writes,"And
here,
I show you how to build your own weather station on your porch or back deck."
